Chhath Puja |
Chhath Parva is a hindu
festival dedicated to Hindu God Sun. Sun is called Surya in Sanskrit, Chhath festivals
is celebrated by natives of Mithila region of Nepal and India. This festival
falls in the month of October or November in the Gregorian English calendar. Chhath
Parva is observed for 4 days from Kartik Shukla Chaturthi to Katrik Shukla
Saptami. The Chhath Puja is performed in order to thanks Lord Surya for
sustaining life on earth and to worship him to provide his continuous blessing
to mankind.
The Sun considered as the
god of energy and of the life-force, is worshipped during the Chhath festival
to promote well-being, prosperity and progress. Hindu people believes that sun helps
to cure the illness and diseases. Sun is considered as sourse of healing too
and considered as token of stability and prosperity. Therefore, people worship
sun to ensure the longevity and prosperity of family members. During this
Chhath Parva, the worshiper observes purity, and sleeps on the floor on a
single blanket. Chhat Parva is the only holy festival which has no involvement
of any pandit. The ritual of Chhath Parva includes taking holy bath, fasting,
standing and worshiping sun for long time and offering Prasad and Argha to ‘Rising
and setting Lord Surya’.
